The Ritz Theater of Clearfield has been in continuous operation since 1928. The Ritz was originally owned by the Thompson family then was purchased by Robert Knepp in 1985. Michael and Meredith Reed purchased the Ritz Theater in November 2023. The decision to purchase the Ritz Theater was a joint decision. The charm, history and character of the theater was attractive to the couple, and they knew that they were equipped to bring some necessary updates to the building while preserving its historic beauty. 

Since purchasing the theater and building in 2023 they have made many improvements and renovations
in 2024 and 2025. Some of the updates include new carpeting, new countertops, updated restrooms, and replacing the auditorium seating in both theaters. Additionally, they launched the website
ritzclearfield.com and added a POS system to be able to accept credit cards. This year alone they built a new handicap accessible restroom, added air conditioning to the Ritz for the first time in 97 years, and began a restoration of the neon marquee in front of the building.

The Reed Family looks forward to keeping the Ritz a community-focused movie theater by offering more showtimes such as additional evening shows on weekends and a matinee on Sunday afternoons. Additionally, they are working to offer more events such as free community movies, collaboration
events with other businesses. They want to provide entertainment and fun experiences for Clearfield County for many years to come.
